Genius Capital Group takes a personalized, advisor-led approach to investment management. Rather than placing you in a generic model portfolio, your advisor works with you to understand your financial goals, time horizon, and comfort with risk — and then builds a strategy around those inputs. This page explains the key mechanisms that drive how your portfolio is constructed and maintained over time.
Risk profiles
When you onboard with Genius Capital Group, you complete a risk assessment questionnaire. Your answers cover factors like your investment timeline, income stability, and how you’d respond to a significant market downturn. Based on your responses, you’re assigned one of three risk profiles:
- Conservative — prioritizes capital preservation with lower exposure to equities and higher allocation to fixed income.
- Balanced — a moderate mix of growth and stability, suitable for medium-term goals.
- Growth — higher equity exposure aimed at long-term appreciation, with greater short-term volatility.
Your risk profile shapes every aspect of your portfolio, from asset allocation to which features are available to you. If your circumstances change, you can request a profile change at any time by contacting your advisor.
Asset allocation
Your portfolio is diversified across three broad asset classes:
- Equities — stocks and equity funds that drive long-term growth potential.
- Fixed income — bonds and income-generating instruments that provide stability and predictable returns.
- Alternative assets — non-traditional investments such as real estate investment trusts (REITs) or commodities, used to further diversify and reduce correlation to public markets.
The specific mix across these classes is determined by your risk profile and time horizon. A Growth profile with a 20-year horizon will carry a significantly higher equity allocation than a Conservative profile targeting a 3-year goal.
Rebalancing
Markets move, and over time your portfolio’s actual allocation will drift from its target. Genius Capital Group automatically reviews your portfolio quarterly and rebalances whenever your allocation drifts more than 5% from its target weights.
Rebalancing keeps your portfolio aligned with your risk profile and prevents unintentional overexposure to any single asset class. You’ll receive a notification each time a rebalance is executed on your account.
Tax considerations
For taxable accounts, Genius Capital Group provides year-end tax documents including 1099 forms that summarize your reportable income, dividends, and capital gains for the tax year. These documents are made available in the Documents section of your client portal.
Tax-loss harvesting is available on Growth and Balanced profiles. When eligible securities in your portfolio have declined in value, your advisor may sell them to realize a loss that can offset gains elsewhere — reducing your overall tax liability without materially changing your investment exposure.
Review your risk profile at least once a year, or whenever you experience a major life event such as a job change, marriage, the birth of a child, or approaching retirement. Your financial goals and risk tolerance evolve over time, and your portfolio should reflect that.
